Where are they now?

Plymouth ’03 stars flourished

By GUS SHLIMBAUM
The Patriot Ledger

Having local teams participate in the 2003 and 2005 Babe Ruth World Series that were held in Quincy added an extra level of excitement throughout Ledgerland during tournament time.

Many of the local players who participated in those tournaments went on to have very successful high school athletic careers, not just in baseball. A good number are now college athletes.

Here’s a look at what some of the local 2003 and 2005 World Series stars are up to now:

Plymouth 2003

The 2003 Plymouth team was special in that it qualified for the tournament by winning the Eastern Massachusetts championship.

Almost all the players from that team played either on the Plymouth North or Plymouth South high school teams, both of which won their Atlantic Coast League divisions in 2007. It was simply a great baseball class. These players were athletic standouts in high school:

Jason Alsheimer: Was a starting left fielder for Plymouth North and was honorable mention for all-league honors.

Ben Bramhall: Did not continue his baseball career in high school because his real passion was running. He currently runs track and cross-country at Brown University.

Sean Carey: Was the captain of the Plymouth South baseball team, playing second base. He attends Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Brandon Coolidge: Found most of his high school success playing football. He was Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic and currently plays at Bridgewater State College. He plays baseball for Plymouth’s American Legion team.

Ben Fey: Was a starting first baseman and pitcher for Plymouth North. He attends Bridgewater State College.

Jimmy Garrigan: Was a football and baseball star at Plymouth North. He was a Ledger All-Scholastic in both sports, at quarterback and shortstop. He is entering his second year at St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., where he plays shortstop for the baseball team.

Chris Horgan: Was a star pitcher at Plymouth South and a Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic. He is currently the closer at Bridgewater State College.

Pat Kerr: Played baseball for Plymouth North and is currently one of the leading hitters on the Plymouth American Legion team. He attends Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Corey Ketterer: Was a Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic football player at Plymouth North, but was also a star catcher. He plays baseball at American International College, where he is entering his second year as a catcher.

Corey Maguire: Was a Ledger All-Scholastic in hockey and baseball at Plymouth South, where he was the captain and starting catcher. He plays baseball at Massasoit Community College but hopes to transfer to Bridgewater State to play hockey.

Andrew Ricardo: Was the ace of the Plymouth North baseball staff in high school, earning Ledger All-Scholastic honors, but an arm injury forced him to end his baseball career. He attends Southern New Hampshire University.

Harry Sims: Was a successful basketball and football player at Plymouth North. He is currently a defensive back at Hamilton College in New York.
